Welcome Teams,

We are truly honored and humbled to have this opportunity to host the 2017 World Rowing Championships at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota – Bradenton, Florida.

Found just south of Florida’s thriving Tampa/St. Petersburg metropolitan area, we are blessed with near-perfect year- round weather and easily accessed by two international airports providing service through all major U.S. carriers. Our destination has a long been one of Florida’s most flourishing vacation destinations, and has become one of the state’s pre-eminent destination for sports training, competition and development.

We’ve earned that distinction for good reason. Teams, coaches, trainers and athletes appreciate the area for its unique combination of relaxed environment, abundant services and entertainment, and unparalleled support for the sports community. Aside from being the home of world-renowned IMG Academy, the Bradenton Area has hosted spring training for the Pittsburgh Pirates since 1969. We’re also home to the Pirates Florida State League affiliate, the Bradenton Marauders. Olympic ice skaters and hockey hopefuls are rigorously coached at the Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex. Nathan Benderson Rowing Facility has hosted multiple regional, national and international rowing events.

We have over 6,500 quality hotel and private rental rooms in our area, including those of Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key where many visiting athletes, their friends and families can also enjoy over 12 miles of sugar white sand beaches. Our parks and natural preserves are second to none and offer a gorgeous escape for families, nature lovers, and hikers.

In short, this is our beautiful home and we’re glad you’ve chosen to visit Bradenton Area. We hope you enjoy your stay and your return to paradise we call home!

Welcome Teams,

We are excited and very proud to have the opportunity to welcome you to the United States and Sarasota, Florida, for the 2017 World Rowing Championships. Our organizing committee, SANCA, has been hard at work to make this championship a truly remarkable experience for everyone, from athletes to officials to spectators to media.

The rowing venue at Nathan Benderson Park is unique in every way, having been designed and built expressly for the purpose of hosting rowing competitions. The water facilities at Benderson Park feature a 12-hectare regatta island, beautiful natural spectator areas, a 2,000m wave attenuation system and television road. The new finish tower is under construction and will be tested at the 2016 Olympic Trials in April.

The course is already in use year round and has hosted more than 15,000 rowing competitors since the opening of the lake.

The organizing committee is well experienced in running major regional and national rowing championships and is supported by all the national, regional and local authorities. SANCA is working in close collaboration with FISA and the United States Rowing Association to provide the best experience for every guest.

Our objective is to provide the competitors with a world-class experience with fair conditions and excellent climate. Spectator engagement will be a major focal point as well, with access points along the entire length of the course, walking trails and
a natural setting to enjoy camaraderie with rowing friends and family.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Sarasota in 2017.
