John started rowing aged 15 and has been involved in the sport in the UK ever since. Having qualified as a coach, John was involved in the formation of the GB Junior Women’s squad as co-ordinator and coach and attended many international regattas and Junior World Championships with the squad.
John is a qualified UK National and Multi-Lane Umpire and served as Chairman of the Regional Umpires Committee and member of the National Umpires committee. He was also a regional representative for British Rowing for many years.
His involvement in organizing numerous domestic events led him to be involved in the Rowing World Cup in 2005 as assistant to the Head of On Water, and the following year he took over as Head of On Water for the World Rowing Championships. Following a move to New Zealand, John joined the Organizing Committee for the World Championships in 2010 in Karapiro. He was then appointed as Technical Operations Manager for the London 2012 Olympics Rowing Regatta, responsible for all aspects of the course set up and on water operations, including the organization of the Junior World Rowing Championships in 2011. The following year he again headed up the On Water team for the Rowing World Cup at Eton Dorney. John is currently living in Madrid, Spain and leads the team of FISA’s launch drivers at the World Cups and World Championships events. In 2016 at the Olympics in Rio he worked for Olympic Broadcasting Services driving the lead TV catamaran for the Rowing and Canoe Sprint events.
