At the 2017 World Rowing Championships, you will witness elite rowers from around the world go for gold right in front of their eyes. In addition to the world-class rowing, we want to make your trip to Florida’s Suncoast an experience you’ll never forget. Below, please find information on the unique themes for each day of competition. You’ll also learn about the exciting Visitor’s Experience program, which will take guests on excursions around Sarasota-Bradenton.

“Let’s Eat, Englewood” is an event where people will have the opportunity to experience a culinary adventure through our community without breaking the bank. The best area restaurants will be featuring specially priced breakfast, lunch and dinner prix fixe menu selections, giving guests the opportunity to explore a variety of different cuisines.

Saturday, September 23

Opening Ceremony

Free for the entire family! Enjoy live music, fireworks and activities for the whole family while helping introduce fans and athletes from around the world to the area’s proud and rich circus history.

Youth Regatta

Come cheer youth rowers as they race on America’s Premier Course.

Expo Theme: Family Fun Day

Bring your mom, dad, brothers and sisters for a day of exciting fun and entertainment at Nathan Benderson Park. Vendors will be on site with products and experiences the whole family can enjoy. That evening, stick around for a spectacular show, commemorating the opening of the 2017 World Rowing Championships.

In the community: Downtown Sarasota Farmer’s Market

The Sarasota Farmers Market, has it’s been around more than 35 years and features more than 70 vendors. The market is a major draw for residents and tourists looking to catch an early morning bite or a midday meal while stocking up on locally grown produce and baked goods.

Expo Theme: Tech Day

Barking at your favorite rowers to make a final push won’t be the only barking you hear. Sunday is Pet Day at Nathan Benderson Park. You may leave with more than just toys for Fido, but a new “furever” friend from one of the rescue agencies on-site.

In the Community: Riverwalk Experience

Located steps away from Downtown Bradenton, the Bradenton’s Riverwalk, is a perfect place for outdoor recreational activities. The Riverwalk includes a
Family Fun Zone, a picnic lawn, a botanical walk, and the signature 400-seat Mosaic Amphitheater. For outdoor enthusiasts, visit the local fishing pier for catching numerous native species.

Monday, September 25

Expo Theme: Eco-Day

Water is a rower’s best friend. On Monday, September 25 th , the 2017 World Rowing Championships celebrate the earth. It’s Ecoday at Nathan Benderson Park. Through the multiple vendors on-site, you’ll learn all about sustainability and what you can do to protect our planet.

In the Community: St. Armands Shop & Dine Around

St. Armands Circle is your destination for retail therapy and gourmet dining. Visit the neighboring keys of Lido and Longboat to kayak lush mangroves and to experience Gulf-side relaxation at its finest.

Expo Theme: Farmer’s Market

Nathan Benderson Park will turn into a Famers Market. While watching world-class action on the water, browse around and pick up some of the freshest produce and other foods thats farmers and growers from around the area have to offer.

In the Community: Experience Sarasota Downtown Main Street

Downtown Main St. Downtown Sarasota is the place locals gather to experience festivals, block parties, and special events. Everything is conveniently located within walking distance. The nightlife offers an array of places to dine and experience live entertainment.

Wednesday, September 27

Expo Theme: Military Appreciation Day

Did you know there are tens of thousands of veterans living in the Sarasota-Bradenton area? We honor those veterans who have served and sacrificed for our country. At Military Appreciation Day, through vendors on-site, you’ll learn about the military and how to help those who protect us.

In the Community: Micro Brew Experience

The Suncoast, already a key player in Florida’s culinary scene, is currently establishing a reputation as a craft pint paradise. Craft beer lovers can enjoy Florida flavors at hometown breweries, and keep up with other American craft breweries at local pubs—where variety is always on tap.

Expo Theme: Golden Ages/Service Day

We celebrate the thousands of seniors living in our community and the valuable contributions they and other have made in Sarasota-Bradenton.

In the Community: WALK Bradenton

Walk Bradenton is an interactive website that showcases downtown Bradenton. Grab your smartphone for a self-guided tour to explore local history, public art, and 145 places to eat, shop, stay, and play. If you want to walk with a local, free 30-minute walks are available at 11am or 3:30pm beginning at the South Florida Museum.

Expo Theme: Local Attractions

The Sarasota-Bradenton area is home to some renowned attractions. You’ll have an opportunity to interact and meet with representatives from various attractions throughout the region. Be sure to bring your camera!

In the Community: Taste of Main – International Flare

Stylish boutiques, acclaimed restaurants, miniature golf, a cinema, concerts, festivals and more. Crews of Distinction

This water parade event will honor and showcase the achievements of the distinguished rowing athletes from years past. Participants will be selected by the National Rowing Foundation, an organization that recognizes the significant contributions athletes make to the sport of rowing.

Expo Theme: Boating and Fishing

Boating and Fishing Day: Sarasota-Bradenton, a community located on the Gulf of Mexico, is known for some of the best fishing in Florida. Leave the boat at home and come on out to Nathan Benderson Park, as we celebrate all things boating and fishing. Learn tips from the pros, purchase tackle, and hey, maybe even a new boat.

Closing Ceremony

All good things must come to an end. Join us as we say farewell to the athletes that gave it their all.

Row for the Cure Regatta

Rowers are some of the healthies athletes on earth, and on the final day of competition, we celebrate health and wellness. Vendors will be on-site giving tips and tricks on how to stay healthy. October 1 st is also the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Stick around after the competition for, Row for the Cure, a fun regatta and fundraiser for Susan G. Komen.

In the Community: Venice AACA Collector Car Show

Venice, Florida, is a charming, ageless city on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Enjoy an old-fashioned Sunday at an ice cream parlor, walk around Centennial Park and enjoy the Venice Regional AACA Collector Car Show. This annual show brings in classic cars from a simpler, bygone era.
